Birmingham City missed out on promotion to the WSL by two points last term after drawing 2-2 with eventual champions London City Lionesses on the final day.
The Blues won the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in 2012 and were once a leading contender at the business end of the WSL table, earning back-to-back top two finishes in 2011 and 2012.
Manager: Amy Merricks
Amy Merricks hopes to be the woman who can lead Birmingham City back to the Barclays WSL.
Merricks was appointed in April 2024 on a three-year contract, replacing Darren Carter, and came within a whisker of leading the Blues to the title in her first season in the hotseat.
Her early coaching career contained plenty of positive signs. With the England’s Under-19s, she helped secure qualification for the second round of the 2024 European Women’s U19 Championship, winning all three of their round one games.
She also has a wealth of experience in club football, spending eight years of her coaching career at Brighton & Hove Albion, where she was made interim manager on three occasions.
During her time with the Seagulls, she spent five years under the tutelage of Hope Powell, who is now Birmingham City’s technical director.
