Portsmouth have a long and proud history dating back to 1916, when they became the first women's football team in Hampshire.
Pompey turned semi-professional ahead of the 2023/24 season and were rewarded with promotion to the second tier for the first time in their history. They finished ninth in their debut campaign at that level last season.
Manager: Jay Sadler
Jay Sadler is Portsmouth’s first-ever full-time manager, just reward for his sterling efforts since his appointment in November 2017.
Sadler had been assistant manager before stepping into the main job when Craig Taylor’s spell was brought to an end.
In the time since, he has helped the club navigate the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and led them to Hampshire Cup success in 2019/20, beating local rivals Southampton on penalties.
After mounting a promotion challenge in 2022/23, finishing seven points off top spot, Sadler and a rejuvenated Pompey went one better the following season, winning 20 of their 22 matches and scoring 125 goals in all competitions.
Sadler then inspired a great escape in 2024/25, leading Pompey to dramatic survival and ensuring he and his players will have another crack at the second tier.
