Pick that one out! The BWSL & BWSL2 Top 10 Goals of the Season so far...
From direct free-kicks and bicycle kicks to even an Olimpico, there has been something for everyone across the BWSL and BWSL2 this year. We dive into some of the best goals of the 2025/26 campaign so far. Take a look at our shortlist below, then have your say at the end...
Cathinka Tandberg (Tottenham Hotspur) v Everton, September 2025
A bold and opportunistic effort from Tandberg saw her hit the ball from 40.4 yards out and find the back of the net. It was a breathtaking effort which caught Toffees goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan off guard.
When Bethany England regained possession with a combination of strength, power and tenacity, Tandberg acted fast and fired the ball goal bound. This game saw the Norway international earn her first start for the Lilywhites, and a stunning goal followed by an earlier assist for Olga Ahtinen’s goal saw her awarded the player of the match.
Georgie Freeland (Portsmouth) v Southampton, October 2025
How about this for a rarity, a goal scored directly from a corner. Freeland’s set piece went straight into the back of the net with no interference from inside the box on the way in, and found the far corner. Freeland’s cross-shot gifted Portsmouth a two-goal lead at Fratton Park having already netted from an earlier corner.
Ultimately, though, Pompey went on to lose the south-coast derby, but Freeland’s first-half finish was a remarkable moment in the game. To add to that, as if scoring one Olimpico isn’t impressive enough, the midfielder scored a second goal by the same means during a December clash against Charlton.
Mary Corbyn (Sunderland) v Bristol City, November 2025
Corbyn’s shot was one of those efforts where you ask, was it a shot, or was it a cross? Only the player herself will ever know the answer! Nevertheless, she won possession on the edge of the box, and with complete composure, struck the ball eloquently into the back of the net shortly before half-time.
In the build up, Sunderland had been patient in midfield but once Corbyn had the chance, she snatched it with both hands. Having created space for herself following her first touch, the Black Cats pressure paid off. Corbyn won the BWSL 2 Golf of the Month award for November for her efforts.
Kelly Gago (Everton) v Manchester City, November 2025
After Vivienne Miedema opened the scoring for City in the first-half, the hosts were on the back foot. However, shortly before half-time, Kelly Gago scored with a beautiful flick.
A truly outrageous effort, Gago’s movement found her in the right place at the right time to meet a pinpoint cross from the right, and the flick with her heel on the turn levelled the scores. It was the French player’s fourth goal in three games, and it was later nominated for goal of the month. Manchester City eventually won the game, but it was Gago’s goal which stole the headlines.
Veatriki Sarri (Birmingham City) v Durham, December 2025
On the stroke of half-time, Birmingham City were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous area, though still 25 yards from goal. Greek striker Sarri had the ball at her feet ready to hit a long-range effort.
Sarri’s effort was well struck with her left foot, a high-quality set piece which curled into the top corner with pace and power for the Greek striker's fifth goal of the campaign. The wonder goal resulted in the Blues heading into the break one goal up, and eventually leading to a three-nil victory for the hosts at St. Andrews.
Shekiera Martinez (West Ham United) v Manchester United, December 2025
With the Hammers searching for an equaliser at Leigh Sports Village following an earlier goal from Elizabeth Terland, the visitors were on the attack.
A cross was delivered into the box, and Riko Ueki touched the ball perfectly to Martinez who was in the right place at the right time. With complete control, the German striker set the ball up with chest control and, with little time or space, she sent her audacious shot on target.
A difficult chance to create but one which was executed brilliantly. She connected with the ball in mid-air and found the back of the net with a bicycle kick which looked so effortless, but which was orchestrated so well. No surprising she was all smiles afterwards.
Lexi Lloyd-Smith (Bristol City) v Sheffield Utd, December 2025
A brilliantly worked attack from the Robins saw a cross from the centre circle find Lloyd-Smith on the front foot on the left-hand side. Despite it initially looking like she’d lost the ball following her first touch, she won back possession, and took aim.
With little time to think, Lloyd-Smith must have spotted the goalkeeper off her line, and she subsequently sent a curling effort into the top corner from all of 30-yards. Her effort struck the back of the net with such power and precision that it was impossible to save.
This was Bristol City’s second goal of the game, and spurred the hosts on to a four-nil victory.
Olivia Smith (Arsenal) v Liverpool, December 2025
A spectacular solo effort from Smith gave Arsenal the lead at the Emirates Stadium. She picked up the ball on the left hand side and found herself surrounded by three Liverpool players. She somehow weaved her way through and free of the defenders. The Arsenal crowd purred in admiration as they sensed something magical was about to happen… and they were right.
After breaking into space, Smith shot low from 25 yards out, a screamer that found the bottom of the net.
In a growing seasonal highlights reel, Smith’s foot work, dexterity and precision will no doubt feature highly.
Lucy Watson (Durham) v Birmingham, February 2026
Deep into added time in Durham, visitors Birmingham were leading with time running out on the clock.
There were just seconds left of added time when the hosts were awarded a free-kick on the right-hand side of the pitch, and substitute Watson stepped up to take it. The angle seemed awkward for a shot, but she hit the ball with such precision and power that it bent into the top-left corner to finish in the stanchion.
There was no one stopping it, and Watson rescued a point for her side with a goal that earned February’s Barclays WSL2 Goal of the Month. It was her second goal in stoppage time in as many games, proving it’s never over until it’s over!
Oona Siren (West Ham United) v London City Lionesses, March 2026
‘Oh my word, what a goal!’ rang the commentary for Siren’s first goal for West Ham, the Finnish international rescuing a point for the Hammers with a dynamite effort against cross-capital rivals London City Lionesses..
A free-kick was sent into the box before being cleared to Siren, who though unmarked on the edge of the 18-yard box soon had opposition players attempting to block her. As the ball fell to her, she caught the ball absolutely plum and arrowed a laser-focused effort into the back of the net. Pace, power and precision…. you simply don’t stop those.
In what has already been described as the goal of the season by some, Siren could not have hit that ball any smoother than she did.
