Russo reaches a century
Arsenal made the trip to Goodison Park for the early kick off of the weekend, with Alessia Russo celebrating her 100th appearance in the WSL. The visitors made a strong start, with Katie McCabe opening the scoring before Russo added the second inside the opening 15 minutes. Everton responded through Honoka Hayashi, who continued her fine form with a brilliant strike from distance to make it two goals in two games. Arsenal remained in control and Olivia Smith added a late third to secure the win and move the Gunners into third place until Manchester United later played.
Late leveller earns Liverpool a point
West Ham United and Liverpool met in an important fixture at the bottom end of the table, with the visitors facing an early setback as Gemma Bonner received a straight red card inside the first 20 minutes. After a quiet first half, the game burst into life after the break. Riko Ueki gave West Ham the lead, only for Liverpool to respond almost immediately through Mia Enderby. The hosts then went back in front eight minutes later thanks to Anna Csiki and looked set to claim all three points. However, the in form Beata Olsson struck late on to earn Liverpool a valuable draw.
Shaw hits number 100, 101, 102 & 103
Bunny Shaw needed just one goal to reach 100 heading into Sunday, but instead produced a remarkable four goal performance as Manchester City swept past Aston Villa. The 6 1 win maintained City’s perfect record of ten straight league victories. Aoba Fujino and Vivianne Miedema were also on the scoresheet for the hosts, while Lucy Parker found the net for the Villans.
Chelsea back to winning ways
After suffering their first defeat in over a year the previous weekend, Chelsea responded with a positive performance against Brighton. Sandy Baltimore opened the scoring before a Caitlin Hayes own goal doubled the lead. Alyssa Thompson added a third to seal a 3 0 victory, keeping Chelsea six points behind Manchester City going into the Christmas break.
The perfect weekend for The Foxes
With only four teams winning across the weekend, Leicester City were the only side outside of the top three to collect all three points. Facing London City Lionesses, Shannon O’Brien’s goal appeared enough to settle the contest. However, late drama followed as the visitors were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time, only for Kosovare Asllani to miss and allow the Foxes to hold on.
Rolfo the hero for United
The final match of the weekend, and of the WSL in 2025, delivered a classic as Manchester United hosted Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs took control before half time through goals from Bethany England and Evelina Summanen, and looked in full command when Martha Thomas added a third early in the second half. United were handed a lifeline when Ella Toone pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining. Substitute Fridolina Rolfo then turned the game on its head, scoring in the 82nd minute before finding a dramatic late equaliser to complete the comeback and ensure the points were shared.
