All you need to know ahead of Gameweek 11 in the WSL2

Following all WSL2 teams commitments in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup last weekend, it is back to WSL2 action for the final time in 2025. Here is a reminder of all the highlights from Gameweek 10.
Wins for Bristol City, Newcastle and Crystal Palace helped their promotion ambitions, as league leaders Charlton were held to a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth, with title chasing Birmingham City coming out second best to the Eagles, losing 3-0.
Elsewhere, a win for Nottingham Forest over Sunderland helped them close the gap on the promotion places, leaving five teams within three points of each other and all in the race for automatic promotion and the promotion playoff third place.
At the other end of the standings, a draw for Ipswich against Durham left them bottom, but gaining a point on Sunderland, who sit a place above them in 11th.
What’s to come in Gameweek 11
With Crystal Palace’s commitments in the Subway Women’s League Cup, and the official location for the final just announced, attention turned to Bristol on Wednesday evening where Jo Potter’s side made it three wins on the bounce with an entertaining 3-2 win over the Robins. Goals from Elise Hughes and Kirsty Howat were cancelled out courtesy of Rio Hardy and Emily Syme, but Irish forward Abbie Larkin secured the winner with 15 minutes to go, moving the Eagles up to 5th position ahead of the weekend.
This weekend, league leaders Charlton host Nottingham Forest, with both sides coming into the game off the back of victories in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Watford and Wolverhampton respectively.
For the chasing pack, Birmingham City host Durham, with the Blues hoping for a similar outcome to this fixture last season as two late goals from Simone Magil and Emily van Egmond helped Amy Merricks’ side win 3-1, having previously been on the losing side to their visitors in the last three outings. In the other game at the top, Newcastle travel to Portsmouth as they look to make it three wins in a row against the South Coast side.
It is a big weekend at the bottom, as the bottom two go head to head with Sunderland hosting Ipswich. The FA Cup weekend would have provided an equal amount of confidence for both sides, who both came away with big victories, as Sunderland beat Derby 5-1 and Ipswich scored five without reply against Portchester.
Elsewhere, Sheffield United and Southampton go head to head, with the sides sitting level on points and holding an equal record of wins, draws and losses. However, despite Southampton boasting one of the best attacks in the league, they are winless in the last four meetings with the Blades, who have won two of their last four.
Where to watch?
All WSL2 games take place on Sunday 21st December at 2pm, other than Sheffield United v Southampton which kicks off an hour earlier at 1pm. All games will be available live on the Barclays WSL2 Youtube channel.
