Charlton remain top despite dropped points
The Addicks made the perfect start on the south coast when Lucia Lobato scored her first goal for the league leaders with just five minutes on the clock. They were later pegged back by Portsmouth as Georgie Freeland levelled the score before the break. Despite creating all the chances in the second half, Charlton could not find the winner, and both sides claimed a point.
Palace climb, as Birmingham stutter
With Charlton dropping points, the opportunity arose for the likes of Birmingham City to close the gap. Standing in their way was a clinical Crystal Palace side, who put three past the Blues courtesy of Molly Sharpe, Annabel Blanchard and Shanade Hopcroft. The victory lifted the Eagles into sixth, with Amy Merricks’ Blues now five points adrift of the league leaders.
Bristol keep pace with the top
Unlike the top two, Bristol City took their chance to put themselves in the hunt for an automatic promotion place with a commanding 4–0 win over Sheffield United. Two goals from Emily Syme, with Lexi Lloyd Smith and Maria Farrugia completing the scoring, ensured a dominant display, with the only blemish being Syme receiving a second booking late on which led to her dismissal. The win moves the Robins level on points with Birmingham City in second and five points off Charlton.
Boye Hlorkah inspires Forest
Since her arrival from last season’s WSL2 champions, London City Lionesses, Chantelle Boye Hlorkah has hit the ground running and has scored four goals in ten matches. Two of those came against Sunderland at the weekend, taking her tally to just two off her best season total last year. Aimee Claypole also scored for the hosts, and Emily Scarr found the net for Sunderland, but Chantelle’s second goal in the second half secured the victory.
First goal for the Magpies for Nobbs
Monday Night Football saw Southampton make the long trip to the North East of England to take on Newcastle. The only goal of the game came from Jordan Nobbs, helping lift the Magpies to fourth in the WSL.
