Goals mean prizes, but so do saves! Here are the best stops of the season, and then nominations for the British Gas Save of the Season Award

BWSL

September – Janina Leitzig (Leicester City)
The German became the inaugural winner of the British Gas award after pulling off a remarkable diving save against Chelsea. Her acrobatics denied a long-range effort from England star, Keira Walsh. In eight previous meetings against Leicester, Chelsea had scored a remarkable 38 goals. Leitzig’s heroics in goal kept the score at Kingsmeadow to 1-0 as the Blues continued their 100 per cent start to the season.

October – Daphne van Domselaar (Arsenal)
The Dutch star pulled off a fine save to deny Brighton's Carla Camacho an equaliser at the Emirates Stadium. A Marisa Olislagers own goal had put Arsenal in front of their home fans and van Domselaar had no intention of allowing the Seagulls to take flight. Her save secured a 1-0 win and earned the 26-year-old her first Save of the Month award.

November – Chiamaka Nnadozie (Brighton)
The Brighton keeper pulled off a sensational save to deny Fuka Nagano in a 1-1 draw. The Nigerian star had arrived on the south coast from Paris FC and started her career with Brighton with a bang. This save – a full stretch which tipped the ball onto the crossbar – was just another effort to add to her ever-growing highlights’ reel.

December – Elene Lete (London City Lionesses)
A penalty stop against Brighton. The 23-year-old Spaniard illustrated her outstanding reactions and sharp reflexes, by denying the Seagulls the chance to double their lead after a whirlwind start a Hayes Lane in front of a record Lionesses crowd. Diving athletically to her left she diverted the spot kick one-handed around the post and behind for a corner. The match finished 1-0.

January – Anneke Borbe (Arsenal)
The Arsenal stopper pulled off a stunning reaction save against Manchester United in the opening minutes of the game – denying Fridolina Rolfo's powerful header from close range, tipping it onto the crossbar. It was one of a series of interventions as the 25-year-old former German youth international helped the hosts keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Emirates Stadium.

February – Ayaka Yamashita (Manchester City)
In one of the most crucial matches of the BWSL season, Yamashita took a starring role. Her acrobatic save in City's 5-1 win over the champions at the Etihad typified the home side’s approach. Erin Cuthbert's strike looked certain to sneak under the crossbar until Yamashita tipped it over just after the hour mark. It proved a vital stop, and handed the impetus to the hosts who went on to add four more before the final whistle.

March – Daphne van Domselaar (Arsenal)
The North London derby is always a special occasion – and this was a save to match. The Dutch keeper’s sensational stop denied Beth England as Arsenal marched to a 5-2 victory over their nearest rivals at the Emirates Stadium. With the score at 4-1, the Dutch stopper clawed England's header away, preventing what looked a certain goal, and earning her a second Save of the Month award of the season.

September – Natalia Negri (Ipswich Town)
The former England youth international and Arsenal academy graduate was rewarded for a stunning save against Nottingham Forest. She saw off competition from Newcastle's Femke Liefting, Charlton's Sophie Whitehouse and Durham's Catriona Sheppard to claim the Division’s inaugural award.

October – Sophie Whitehouse (Charlton Athletic)
The 28-year-old won the award for her wonder save against Sheffield United. It would prove to be the first of what would become a remarkable run. Whitehouse had been in stunning form for the Addicks, conceding only three goals in the campaign -– and keeping four clean sheets in six matches – at the time.

November – Sophie Whitehouse (Charlton Athletic)
And here she was again, celebrating back-to-back awards, this time for a save against Birmingham City that played a key role in a crucial win. The Irish international, and former Lewes player, was a rock in Charlton’s early season form – keeping six clean sheets in nine games by this point of the season.

December – Shae Yañez (Crystal Palace)
With Palace leading 1-0 against Birmingham City, Veatriki Sarri took aim from outside the box and unleashed an effort which looked destined for the roof of the net. Palace’s American keeper – who had joined the club at the start of the 2024-25 season, had other ideas, denying her acrobatically and tipping the ball onto the crossbar and away from danger. Palace went on to win 3-0.

January – Sophie Whitehouse (Charlton Athletic)
After two months out of the limelight, Whitehouse returned, taking her third monthly award of the season for an exceptional save against Newcastle United. She flew across goal to parry a bending effort that looked set to bulge the far corner.

February – Natalia Negri (Ipswich Town)
Following in the footsteps of her Charlton counterpart, Negri won her second Save of the Month award of the season after picking up the first award of the season back in September. The 22 year old saved a goal-bound shot from Portsmouth’s Megan Hornby in a crucial 2-1 win for the Suffolk side.

March – Fran Stenson (Southampton)
The former Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers keeper protected a clean sheet against Durham – her sixth of the season – with a crucial save in stoppage time. With the minutes ticking away at Maiden Castle, Durham's Lucy Watson whipped in a dangerous free-kick – a back-peddling and under-pressure Stenson tipped the ball over the crossbar to ensure the south coast side left the north east with a point.
