Charlton Athletic kicked off their 2025-26 Barclays Women’s Championship season in style with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at The Valley. Emma Bissell’s decisive second-half strike earned the Addicks all three points and local bragging rights in the south London derby. After a cagey first half where Charlton keeper Sophie Whitehouse denied Abbie Larkin and Tessel Middag, the hosts grew into the game after the break. Mary McAteer came close with a header against the bar before Bissell pounced in the 55th minute to break the deadlock. Despite Katie Bradley’s late dismissal, Karen Hills’ side held firm to start the campaign with a win.
