The 13 BWSL and BWSL2 fixtures in Matchweek 2 produced 38 goals at an average of 2.92 per game.
That’s a slight increase on Matchweek 1, which still saw ample action at the sharp end of the pitch with 33 goals scored (2.53 per game).
This weekend’s highest-scoring encounter came from the King Power Stadium, where Leicester City made it two wins from two at the start of the season by beating Durham 4-2.
3 teams yet to concede
After two rounds of games, all but three of the 26 teams across the BWSL and BWSL2 have conceded at least one goal.
Despite having 30 shots and 79% possession, Arsenal were unable to find a way through Crystal Palace’s robust rearguard action – as such, both sides remain unbreached at the back in the 2026/27 BWSL.
Meanwhile, in the BWSL2, Newcastle United are the last ones standing in that regard, making it two wins and two clean sheets from their first two matches thanks to Friday’s 1-0 victory at Bristol City.
1,071 days since two red cards for a BWSL team
With Ashley Neville and Hawa Cissoko both sent off in their 1-0 defeat away to Everton on Sunday, Charlton Athletic became the first team to receive two red cards in a BWSL game for almost three years (1,071 days).
The previous side to manage that unwanted feat were Manchester City, for whom Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp saw red in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in October 2023.
It had been nearly two years since there were multiple red cards in a BWSL match: Poppy Pattinson and Paula Tomas were dismissed for Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa respectively when the sides met early in the 2024/24 campaign.
7 players have scored in both games this season
Two Matchweeks into the 2026/27 season, seven players have scored in both their team’s league games so far.
In the BWSL, those players are: Bunny Shaw, Mary Fowler (both Manchester City), Danielle van de Donk (London City Lionesses), Lauren James (Chelsea), Oceane Hurtre (Birmingham City) and Viviane Asseyi (West Ham United).
And in the BWSL2, Nottingham Forest’s Alana Murphy has the distinction of being the only player to find the net in both matches so far, putting her team ahead in draws against Watford and Ipswich Town.
14 games unbeaten for Chelsea against Man United
Chelsea maintained their hold over Manchester United with a resounding 5-0 away win on Sunday, meaning they’ve now faced them 14 times in the BWSL without ever losing.
The Blues have won 12 of those encounters, and they’re the only opponents Man United have never beaten in the competition.
In all competitions, these sides have met 21 times – United have won just once, though that was a momentous victory: a 2-1 FA Cup semi-final triumph en route to lifting their first major trophy two years ago.

Standout individual
Bunny Shaw is the top-scoring Fantasy player at this early stage of the season with 27 points – adding 14 to her Matchweek 1 return of 13.
With three goals already this term, the 2025/26 BWSL Golden Boot winner is showing exactly the kind of form that’s seen her selected in 62% of Fantasy teams.
Two players sit joint second on 25 points: Alana Murphy (Nottingham Forest) and Katy Watson (Sunderland), with three players tied for third place on 23 points: Ellie Carpenter, Lauren James (both Chelsea) and Grace Fisk (Liverpool).
