358 days since Arsenal’s previous BWSL defeat
Arsenal fell just one game short of going an entire year unbeaten in the BWSL, going down 1-0 in Sunday’s London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Gunners hadn’t lost any of their previous 20 league games, a run stretching back to another 1-0 loss – on that occasion to Manchester City – on October 4, 2025.
Victorious Chelsea, meanwhile, have avoid defeat in their opening four BWSL matches in each of the last four seasons.
6th time lucky for Liverpool against Everton
Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Everton ended a remarkable streak for the Toffees, who had won the last five BWSL Merseyside derbies away to the Reds.
This time, it wasn’t to be, as goals from Beata Olsson (four minutes into the game) and Cornelia Kapocs (four minutes from time) secured the hosts’ first victory over Everton in a BWSL derby at Anfield.
Liverpool have now won three successive Merseyside derbies in all competitions.
5 goal contributions for four players this season
Four rounds of fixtures into the 2026/27 campaign and four players are already up to five goal contributions in the BWSL or BWSL2.
In the top flight, Man City’s Bunny Shaw, Birmingham City’s Oceane Hurtre and Tottenham Hotspur’s Victoria Pelova lead the way, all with four goals and one assist (incidentally, they’re also the division’s joint top scorers).
And in the second tier, Newcastle United’s Martha Thomas is out in front on her own, also notching four goals and one assist.
In terms of assists alone, Spurs’ Signe Gaupset leads the way at this early stage of the campaign with three – the most of any player across the BWSL and BWSL2.
75% win rate for teams who scored first
Of the 10 games with a winner this weekend (six in the BWSL, four in the BWSL2), nine were won by the team scoring first.
Add in the two score draws (Birmingham 3-3 Crystal Palace and Southampton 1-1 Nottingham Forest) and three-quarters of teams who opening the scoring went on to win.
Wolves were the only side to score first and lose, going 1-0 up away to Ipswich before succumbing to a 3-1 defeat.
Six sides opened the scoring and went on to keep a clean sheet (five in the BWSL, one in the BWSL2), the most in any Matchweek so far this term.
2 teams have conceded a single goal
Every BWSL and BWSL2 defence has been breached, but two sides have experienced that just once so far in 2026/27: Chelsea and Newcastle.
And in the case of Chelsea, they haven’t actually had an opposition player put the ball into their net yet: the Blues’ sole goal against was Veerle Buurman’s own goal in the Matchweek 1 draw with Aston Villa.
BWSL2 leaders Newcastle – who, along with BWSL leaders Man City, boast one of two 100% records after four matches – let in their one goal so far in Matchweek 3 – while already 2-0 up against Sheffield United in an encounter they eventually won 4-1.

Standout individual
There’s a new Fantasy points leader! Birmingham’s Oceane Hurtre is one of two BWSL stars to pass the 40-point mark.
Hurtre leads the way with 42 points, having picked up an impressive 18 this weekend, bagging a brace in her side’s 3-3 draw with Palace.

The other player to move into the 40s for Fantasy points is Chelsea defender Ellie Carpenter, who hit 41 points overall as she helped the Blues to a clean sheet in beating Arsenal.

Martha Thomas, who scored twice in Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Leicester City, was OnaBattleAfterAnother’s most valuable player in Matchweek 4, collecting 15 points.
Three others also got into double figures: Man City’s Alex Greenwood – whose free-kick saw off Charlton Athletic 1-0 – the aforementioned Carpenter and Alexia Putellas – who opened her London City Lionesses account with the first goal in their 2-0 success against Brighton & Hove Albion.
