Manchester United’s Mared Griffiths has become the first player to win a Subway Black Card and a year’s supply of Subway as part of the brand-new Subway Fresh Move of the Round award.
With players sitting at the heart of the competition, the award is designed to recognise more than just goals and is chosen by an ex-player who considers a player’s overall contribution to their team and the match.
Former England and Manchester City midfielder Laura Coombs selected Griffiths for her Fresh Move of the Round after her standout performance against Sheffield United in the opening fixture of the Subway Players Cup last week, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist.
The new award is a fresh take on the traditional Player of the Match award, where the winner receives a Subway Black Card giving them a year’s supply of Subway to enjoy at stores across the country.
From spuds to subs, the Black Card is redeemable at participating Subway stores, meaning players, including Griffiths, can choose to treat themselves their way thanks to their performances on the pitch.
The Subway Players Cup continues this evening with another Black Card up for grabs, with former England and Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen choosing her Fresh Move of the Round and deciding which player will take home the next Subway Black Card.
