Budding footballers from universities across Birmingham enjoyed a unique Subway Women’s League Cup matchday experience at the Bescot Stadium on Friday 21 November as part of Subway’s partnership with BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport).

The competition’s title sponsor, Subway are currently working with BUCS to help the next generation of students stay active and engaged with university sport and have been expanding the reach of “Fresh Moves” across UK university campuses.

And as part of the initiative, Subway - in collaboration with WSL Football - arranged a special trip to Friday evening's Subway Women’s League Cup group stage clash between Aston Villa and Birmingham City for the 33-strong group of students from Birmingham and Aston Universities.

Providing the group with transport to and from the game, free Subway food and drink, merchandise and tickets, the students were also treated to an audience with Aston Villa’s Lucy Parker and Birmingham City’s Simone Magill before the game.

The pair conducted a short Q&A with those in attendance ahead of kick-off, with the game eventually finishing 3-3 on the night, before the Blues ran out winners on penalties for an extra point.

Matt Flint, Senior Brand and Strategy Manager for Subway, said: “We are always on the look-out for exciting new ways to connect our Fresh Moves partners, and this seemed like the perfect way to offer some of our BUCS teams an unforgettable night out.

“Everyone had a great evening, and we hope to run more events like this continue to grow and promote the women’s game in the UK.”

Amy Preston, Club Development Manager for the University of Birmingham, added: “We were delighted to be invited to the game between Aston Villa and Birmingham City by Subway®️.

“Our students had a brilliant time - it was a night to remember for them, and they are already talking about when they can watch their favourite players back in action again soon.”

With the group stages of the competition having now concluded, the draws for the quarter and semi-finals of the Subway Women’s League Cup will take place on Tuesday 25 November 2025 at 6pm, live on the Barclays WSL TikTok channel, and will be conducted by GK Barry and Ella Rutherford.
