Barclays WSL Golden Glove Winner Announced

Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton adds the Barclays Golden Glove award to her growing collection
It’s been quite the season for Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.
Despite missing three BWSL games from mid-November to January though injury, The England stopper still managed to keep eight clean sheets in 18 games [though she came off with injury in the dying embers of Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Manchester United at the weekend], one more than Manchester City’s Ayaka Yamashita and Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who both conceded on the final day of the season.
And while Chelsea might have experienced a season of inconsistency in 2025-26 by their own lofty standards, one thing they have been able to rely on is Hampton’s consistency between the posts.
She started the campaign with a bang, making a crucial acrobatic save to deny Bunny Shaw in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against eventual league winners Manchester City on the opening day at Stamford Bridge.
She followed that with another impressive save to deny Kirsty Hanson away at Aston Villa, diving low to her left and displaying a strong wrist to keep the BWSL’s second-highest goalscorer at bay.
The saves kept coming, and she was the busier of the two goalkeepers as Chelsea went on to win the Subway League Cup at Manchester United’s expense in Bristol, Hampton keeping a clean sheet and playing her part as the Blues lifted the first trophy of the campaign.
“It's really important for a team like Chelsea to have one of the best goalkeepers in the world - if not the best at the moment,” Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor told the club’s official website.
“Hannah is a great goalkeeper for many reasons. She's a complete goalkeeper, who makes some great saves for the team, but also in possession of the ball brings a lot.
“She gives a lot of strength to the team. She's really confident right now. I think we can see that on the pitch, and it's always really positive for the team to have a strong goalkeeper and to have someone who brings confidence.”
It’s the second season in a row that Hampton has won the Golden Glove award. And even when she wasn’t playing because of injury, at the tail end of 2025, the personal accolades kept on coming, including BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award and the FIFA Best Women’s Goalkeeper award.
Another player requiring a bigger mantlepiece for her ever-growing collection…
