Most goals: Five-strike trio lead the way
Five games in, three players top the BWSL scoring charts with five goals – and unsurprisingly, three-time back-to-back Golden Boot winner Bunny Shaw is among them.
The Manchester City star is joined on five by Birmingham City’s Oceane Hurtre, who has made the transition from BWSL2 to the top flight look seamless, and Victoria Pelova of Tottenham Hotspur.
Shaw’s Man City teammate Lauren Hemp is hot on the trio’s heels with four goals, with five players sitting on three – including key London City Lionesses pair Alexia Putellas and Danielle van de Donk.
- 5 goals: Bunny Shaw (Man City), Oceane Hurtre (Birmingham), Victoria Pelova (Spurs)
- 4 goals: Lauren Hemp (Man City)
- 3 goals: Alexia Putellas, Danielle van de Donk (both London City Lionesses), Kiko Seike (Brighton), Olivia Holdt (Spurs), Viviane Asseyi (West Ham)
Most shots: Shaw sharp as ever
Equally, it comes as no surprise to see Shaw lead the way for shots – by some distance. She’s had 10 more attempts than the next player on the list, Chelsea’s Lauren James – the first non-striker to pass the 20-shot mark this season.
Shaw and James are two of five players with 15 shots or more to their name in the early weeks of the campaign.
- 31 shots: Bunny Shaw (Man City)
- 21 shots: Lauren James (Chelsea)
- 18 shots: Olivia Holdt (Spurs)
- 17 shots: Danielle van de Donk (London City Lionesses)
- 16 shots: Lauren Hemp (Man City), Signe Gaupset (Spurs)
- 15 shots: Oceane Hurtre (Birmingham), Julie Blakstad (Spurs), Keira Walsh (Chelsea)
Most shots on target: Shaw top again as Hemp and Hurtre show their efficiency
And it follows that Shaw has also had more shots on target than anyone else, testing the goalkeeper at the very least with just over a third of her efforts.
That being said, the two players behind her on nine – Hemp and Hurtre – have hit the target with over 50% of their attempts.
- 11 shots on target: Bunny Shaw (Man City)
- 9 shots on target: Lauren Hemp (Man City), Oceane Hurtre (Birmingham)
- 8 shots on target: Lisa Baum (Arsenal)
- 7 shots on target: Victoria Pelova (Spurs), Kiko Seike (Brighton)
Highest xG: Shaw and Van de Donk in the right place at the right time
Having posted a BWSL-high 21.10 Expected Goals (xG) en route to the title last term, Shaw is already almost a third of the way to that tally this time around, averaging a very healthy 1.18 xG per game.
Van de Donk is the only other player to accumulate 3.00 xG or higher, while seven players have passed the 2.00 xG mark.
- 5.90 xG: Bunny Shaw (Man City)
- 3.78 xG: Danielle van de Donk (London City Lionesses)
- 2.62 xG: Lauren Hemp (Man City)
- 2.33 xG: Alyssa Thompson (Chelsea)
- 2.30 xG: Bethany England (Palace)
- 2.28 xG: Alessia Russo (Arsenal)
- 2.11 xG: Sjoeke Nusken (Chelsea)
- 2.05 xG: Oceane Hurtre (Birmingham), Kadidiatou Diani (London City Lionesses)
Highest shot conversion: Two players perfect in front of goal
This a metric that has to be taken with a pinch of salt at this early stage of the season, but two players can currently boast a perfect shot completion rate.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Gabby George has scored with both shots she’s had, with Chelsea’s Lexi Potter finding the net with her sole attempt so far.
- 100.00% shot conversion: Gabby George (Brighton), Lexi Potter (Chelsea)
- 66.67% shot conversion: Julia Zigiotti Olme (Man United)
- 50.00% shot conversion: Jodie Hutton (Charlton)
- 41.67% shot conversion: Victoria Pelova (Spurs)
- 40.00% shot conversion: Lexi Lloyd-Smith (Palace)
