It's a BWSL thing! Celebrating our EA TOTY stars

The Barclays Women’s Super League has once again shown why it’s home to some of the brightest talent in the game. Fans had their say in this year’s EA SPORTS FC 26 Team of the Year, and five BWSL players made the cut — more than any other women’s league.
Chelsea, who lifted the WSL title, have two representatives in Millie Bright and Lucy Bronze, with Bronze earning the distinction of being the very first captain of the Women’s TOTY XI. Arsenal, fresh from their UEFA Women’s Champions League triumph, are represented by three stars: Mariona Caldentey, the Women’s Professional Game Player of the Year, along with England captain, and defender, Leah Williamson and forward Alessia Russo.
The result is a Team of the Year that reflects both brilliance on the pitch and the impact these players have on everyone who follows the women’s game.
1/5
Leah Williamson - Arsenal
A product of Arsenal’s academy since the age of eight, Leah Williamson made her senior debut in 2014 and has won eight major honours with the club. The tall, elegant defender, who is known for her ability to play defence-splitting passes as well as command her own penalty area, is now the Vice-Captain of Arsenal, lifting the Women's Champions League last season, and has also captained England to Euro success in 2022 and 2025.
2/5
Lucy Bronze - Chelsea
A double award-winner in this year’s EA SPORTS Team of the Year, Lucy Bronze was also named the first-ever captain of the Women’s Team. It capped off an outstanding season on the pitch for the Blues, who went unbeaten throughout the 24/25 BWSL campaign. Bronze started 16 of the 22 league matches and made a further three appearances from the bench, playing a key role at right-back as the club added more silverware to the cabinet. She featured in the League Cup final victory over Manchester City and was again in the starting line-up when the Blues faced Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
3/5
Alessia Russo - Arsenal
England striker Alessia continued to elevate her already stellar reputation during the 2024/25 season, finishing as the club’s leading scorer with 20 goals across all competitions. She also shared the WSL Golden Boot with Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw after both netted 12 league goals. On the European stage, her eight goals in the UEFA Women’s Champions League saw her finish joint-second in the competition’s scoring charts alongside Mariona Caldentey, playing a crucial role in the team lifting the inaugural trophy.
4/5
Millie Bright - Chelsea
In January, Bright made history by becoming the player with the most wins in Barclays Women’s Super League history, reaching 129 victories — no one has won more BWSL games. Always a key figure in Chelsea’s unbeaten starts, she celebrated another milestone in mid-October 2025, making her 300th appearance for the club, the first player to reach that mark in the BWSL era.
5/5
Mariona Caldentey - Arsenal
Spanish international Mariona made an instant impact in her first year in England, winning the BWSL Player of the Season and lifting the UEFA Champions League for the fourth time in five years, having previously claimed three titles with Barcelona. She scored 19 goals in 41 appearances, including nine in the WSL (with five assists) and eight in Europe, with her strike in Lyon during the semi-final second leg earning her the Champions League Goal of the Season. Impressively, much of her goal return came while playing in a deeper midfield role, where her partnership with Kim Little thrived and her relentless running, pressing and tackling proved as vital as her creativity and passing.
Congratulations Leah, Lucy, Alessia, Millie, Mariona 🏆
