WSL Football Championing Female Photography Talent To Elevate Women’s Game

This weekend marked a historic first for WSL Football – For the first time ever, all BWSL and BWSL2 matches were photographed exclusively by female talent.
Getty Images, a preeminent global visual content creator and marketplace, and the WSL’s official matchday photography partner, provided an all-female team to deliver high-quality football photography from each BWSL fixture.
WSL Football and Getty Images share an ambition to drive more representation across every aspect of women’s football, elevate women in the game and create a more inclusive culture.
Head to the BWSL Instagram account to see a special carousel featuring each photographer’s favourite shot from the weekend — and the story behind it.
Charlotte Tattersall, who shot at Manchester United v Chelsea and Sheffield United v Ipswich Town said: “I loved capturing Anna Sandberg’s goal celebration as it wasn’t just a goal on the scoreboard like any other match. It was a tribute to her mum who recently passed away. It’s such an honour to be pitch side to capture these moments”
Molly Darlington, was at both Manchester City v Arsenal and Sunderland v Charlton Athletic said: “A reminder after the week that football brings everyone together no matter where they’re from.”
Morgan Harlow (Leicester City v Everton) said: “My favourite photo from the BWSL so far is a moment I captured at the end of the Leicester City v Everton FC match. Yuka Momiki of Everton FC is seen embracing with her former Leicester City teammates after being awarded Player of the Match. It was a wholesome moment to capture women supporting each other, no matter whether they're on the opposing team or not.”
Leila Coker (West Ham United v Aston Villa) said: “What I love about photographing women’s football is capturing the togetherness and the split second moment of celebration.”
Annabel Lee-Ellis (Tottenham Hotspur v Brighton & Hove Albion) said : “This photo from Sunday’s game highlights the highly competitive and physical nature of the BWSL. Tottenham’s Tandberg tracks the ball whilst holding off from the challenge of Cankovic, a moment of tension as the bright yellow shirt of Brighton’s away kit contrasts against the home shirt of the Lilywhites”
Harriet Lander (London City Lionesses v Liverpool) said: “Inspiring the next generation of fans and players as the women’s game continues to grow!”
Jess Hornby (Birmingham City v Southampton) said: “Photographing the BWSL often provides more freedom and access, plus the ability to capture different angles and more candid moments. I also love the connection between players and fans - creating a bond on and off the pitch!”
