Stanway returns to the BWSL from Bayern Munich

Arsenal are delighted to announce the signing of Georgia Stanway on a permanent deal.

The 27-year-old midfielder joins Arsenal after leaving German side Bayern Munich, who she helped to win eight trophies across a four-year spell in the Bundesliga.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal,” said Georgia. “This is a massive club that is driving the women’s game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it. I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase.”

Born in Barrow-in-Furness on 3 January 1999, Georgia came up through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers before making her senior debut at the age of 16, in February 2015.

Her talent and potential already clear to see, Georgia soon sealed a move to Women’s Super League side Manchester City in the summer of 2015. She would go on to make 186 appearances and score 67 goals for the Cityzens, winning one WSL title, three FA Cups and three League Cups.

Georgia joined Bayern Munich in 2022 after seven seasons with Manchester City, and the midfielder continued to thrive in Germany as Bayern won the Bundesliga title in each of her four seasons in Munich. Georgia also won two German Cups and two German Super Cups at Bayern, scoring 32 goals in 128 appearances as she cemented her reputation as one of the best central midfielders in the world.

At international level, Georgia has scored 33 goals in 93 games for England and played an integral role in both of the Lionesses’ historic UEFA Women’s European Championship triumphs, in 2022 and 2025. In recognition of her success, Georgia was made an MBE in the New Year Honours 2026.

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley, said: “We’re delighted to bring Georgia to Arsenal. Georgia is among the best midfielders in the world with a proven track record of success at club and international level. She brings strong leadership, character and competitiveness and I know our supporters will enjoy watching her play in red and white.”

Head Coach Renée Slegers said: “Georgia is a brilliant midfielder and we’re thrilled that she is an Arsenal player. She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality. We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season ahead of a big campaign ahead.”

Georgia will wear the number 4 jersey here at Arsenal.
