Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie is enjoying a standout season on the South Coast, and took her game to another level against Manchester City

Chiamaka Nnadozie’s debut season in the BWSL has got everyone talking, and it’s certainly for all the right reasons

Nnadozie’s season has been transformative for Brighton. A summer 2025 move from Paris FC to the Seagulls has helped to cement her status as one of the best shot stoppers in the game. With fans and pundits alike praising Nnadozie all campaign long, her most recent performance, against Manchester City, added further gloss to her burgeoning reputation.

Brighton stun league leaders

On 25 April, Brighton sent shockwaves through the BWSL as they managed a 3-2 victory over the league leaders. And despite conceding two goals, Nnadozie put in a relentless shift.

The Nigerian international was put on high alert immediately after the Citizens nearly scored just 15 seconds into the game. Khadija Shaw managed to get on the receiving end of an intercepted ball and, as anxiety pumped through the home end, Nnadozie remained composed, with even the league’s most prolific goalscorer unable to shake her confidence. With her glove meeting the ball, Nnadozie pushed the ball away from the net and back out to the field, keeping the barrier closed just that bit longer.

Even when her team fell behind, Nnadozie helped push her team to victory, finishing the 90 minutes with four vital saves within the penalty area, the most memorable coming at the end of the first half. After Kerolin put City ahead in the first five minutes, Nnadozie made sure that the first 45 wouldn’t see a second from the Brazilian. Kerolin breezed through Brighton’s backline, leaving her one-on-one with Nnadozie. Tensions grew. Kerolin guided the ball into the centre of the box, ready to go into half-time with a 2-0 lead. Nnadozie had other ideas, staying large and closing down the South American’s efforts, keeping her team very much in the game.

Her performance during Brighton’s win received praise from City head coach Andrée Jeglertz, the Swede admitting that he thought Nnadozie had a “commanding performance”, honing in on her resilience and ability to stay composed under pressure.

The numbers don’t lie

Despite one of her more breathtaking performances coming in the last fixtures of the season, Nnadozie has been a constant for Brighton throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

Brighton’s goalkeeper coach has highlighted how much Nnadozie’s arrival has done for her team since arriving last summer. The coach stated that seeing her in the net “fills the whole team with confidence.”

The 25 year old’s stats do the talking. Her debut season has seen her record 57 saves in just 17 BWSL appearances. Alongside this, she sits third in the league’s rankings for clean sheets, keeping six, and with the Seagulls having three fixtures remaining, there’s a chance that with three matches remaining, Nnadozie has a perfect opportunity to overtake Manchester City’s Ayaka Yamashita.

Her stats don’t stop there, ranking first in clearances and tackles amongst all goalkeepers across the BWSL. It’s no surprise that her teammates’ talk about both her “safe hands” and the fact that they “trust her implicitly in goal”.

A debut season to remember

Nnadozie’s contract with Brighton doesn’t expire until 2029, meaning she’s certainly one to watch flourish in the BWSL in the coming seasons. At the time of her signing, Brighton head coach Dario Vidošić said that Nnadozie was a “talented and commanding keeper” with his aims for the Nigerian to add consistency to Brighton’s defensive line, and you can’t argue with the fact she’s done exactly that.

Currently sitting sixth in the BWSL standings and now on a three-game unbeaten run, it seems to be clicking for Brighton, with players like Nnadozie bringing a newfound competitive edge to the team, the off-season an exciting time to regroup and tap into this consistency further.
