The transfer window continues to deliver new faces and new levels of excitement to the BWSL. Here’s our pick of the additions so far.
**Alexia Putellas
**
Barcelona > London City Lionesses
London City Lionesses have arguably made one of the biggest statement signings of the summer with the addition of two-times Ballon d’Or Feminin winner, and arguably one of the greatest players in the women’s game, Alexia Putellas.
The mercurial 32-year-old spent 14 years with Barcelona and left at the end of last season as the club’s all-time scorer, with 233 goals, as well as 38 trophies in the bag… including a remarkable quadruple last season.
‘La Reina’ – the Queen – won the Spanish title ten times and the Champions League on four occasions and it is hoped her experience will help take the London City Lionesses to the next level, from mid-table last season, to the BWSL’s top three, and Champions League qualification.
“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter with London City Lionesses,” she says. “The club's ambition and its steadfast commitment to growing as a women-only independent club resonate deeply with me. look forward to making an impact on the pitch as we challenge for titles.”
Putellas joins Mary Earps to head to the capital this summer in what is proving to be an exciting shakeup.
**Selina Cerci
**
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim > Arsenal
It’s been a busy summer across North London, and the Gunners are hoping German forward Selina Cercil – an Arsenal fan – can bring her prolific goalscoring form to the BWSL.
Cerci, 26, scored 34 goals in 47 games in two seasons, helping her side to a fourth-place finish last season. Moreover, Cerci was directly involved in 25 goals in the Women's Bundesliga, adding nine assists to the 16 goals she scored, a figure only bettered by Barcelona's Clàudia Pina (26) across Europe's five major leagues.
The German international, who has five goals in 20 caps, is Arsenal’s second signing from the Frauen Bundesliga behind midfielder Georgia Stanway, and joins on a two-year deal with the option of a third year.
“She has impressive goalscoring numbers and brings good presence, physicality and forward intent,” says Gunners boss Renee Slegers. “Combined with her strong work ethic, we feel these qualities make her a great addition to our squad.”
**Vivien Endemann
**
Wolfsburg > Liverpool
Liverpool have also been busy reinforcing their attacking options, and in 24-year-old German international Vivien Endemann the Reds have signed a player who has played at the top level in Germany for the last three seasons.
The forward scored 31 goals since joining the two-time Women's Champions League winners in 2023.
Of those strikes, several came in the Champions League, including when she found the net against Manchester United in November last year. She leaves Wolfsburg with a German Cup winners’ medal from 2024. Before joining Wolfsburg, Endemann spent two years with SGS Essen and SV Meppen.
She made her senior debut for Germany in 2024 before going on to win a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in the same year.
Kirsty Hanson
Aston Villa > Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are keeping fingers and toes crossed that 28-year-old Scottish international Kirsty Hanson can continue her swashbuckling form from last season into the new campaign following her switch from Aston Villa.
Hanson can play on either flank or as a no.9 and she enjoyed her best season to date in 2025-26 when she netted 12 times, making her the third-highest goalscorer in BWSL behind Khadija Shaw and Alessia Russo.
Arguably her finest strike was her fierce left-footed effort against West Ham United in October, which saw her win the BWSL Goal of the Season Award.
“Kirsty is a player with proven quality in the BWSL and someone who has consistently shown she can affect games at this level,” said Spurs boss Martin Ho.
“She brings pace, energy, directness and real threat in the final third, but also the work ethic and intensity we want in our attacking players. She played a lot of her football last season as a centre forward, while also having the ability to play wide, and that versatility is really important for us in how we want to attack.”
**Lia Walti
**
Juventus > Brighton & Hove Albion
Returning to the BWSL after a one-year sojourn in Italy with Juventus is 33-year-old midfielder Lia Walti.
The Swiss international spent seven years and made 177 appearances with Arsenal – winning the BWSL, two Subway League Cup titles and the Champions League in 2025 with the Gunners – before moving to Italy.
Clearly the lure of England is strong, for she left Juve after 16 games and now joins an ambitious Brighton side.
“Lia is a huge addition to the team ahead of the new season,” says Seagulls coach Dario Vidosic. She brings a similar leadership profile to the group as Fran Kirby -- a huge amount of experience at the very top end of the game, with silverware to show for it.
"Lia's career speaks for itself and I am looking forward to seeing the impact she will have for us.
Walti also boasts huge experience on the international stage. She’s the fourth most-capped Swiss player of all time with 140 appearances.
