The overview
Last season: 8th (BWSL)
This season expectations: Pushing for the top-half
Everton head into the season with a fresh look and plenty to be excited about. Scott Phelan has given his attack some strong upgrades over the summer, and there's a real sense this is a squad ready to climb the table.
Hannah Cain and Jutta Rantala arrive from Leicester to add pace and goals to the forward line. Zara Kramžar brings her direct style in permanently after a loan spell with the Toffees where she averaged 6.37 aerial duels per 90 last season, and Holly McNamara adds even more attacking firepower coming in from Melbourne City with 14 goals to her name last season. Once it all gets going, Everton could be a lot of fun to watch as they look to improve from last season.
The one to build around from Everton’s perspective is Yuka Momiki. She's a livewire who pops up with goals, takes the corners and steps up for penalties, exactly the kind of do-it-all attacker who piles up points from all over. Ornella Vignola is another to keep tabs on, a dribbler who loves to drive at defenders. The Spain international would have scored 100 points last season based on our scoring system, so she’s worth a look for your team.
Set-piece takers
Corners: Yuka Momiki and Ruby Mace shared these between them last season, so they're your two for set-piece assist potential, with Momiki the ideal pick given everything else she offers.
Penalties: Momiki might be the most likely, or Vignola, it’s a wait and see situation for Everton’s dedicated penalty taker this season.
Direct free kicks: Momiki and Mace are the likeliest in this scenario.
Player costs
Everton are a smart place to shop, a side on the up with a few players who could really take off.
Yuka Momiki (£6.5m) offers goals, corners, free kicks and bags of involvement making her the pick of the squad and a lovely value option in midfield or attack. Among the new arrivals, Hannah Cain (£6.0m) is the exciting one, a proven goalscorer who could hit the ground running. Also, keep Ornella Vignola (£7.0m) in mind for an excellent addition to your front line.
At the back, Courtney Brosnan (£5.0m) is worth serious thought. She’s proven to be a dependable keeper and could turn into one of the season's shrewder picks.
