Why have we made the changes we have? Well, it’s come from your feedback.
When we launched the format, the community fed back and we wanted to act on it. Two things came up again and again. There were too many boosters in play, so squads could turn over several times in a few weeks. And the game was deciding when you used them, not you, which left very little room to be strategic. Core fantasy players, long-time BWSL fans, our own team, everyone landed in roughly the same place.
So we went back and worked through it together. What follows came out of those conversations, and it's a better game for it.
We’ve simplified how boosters work in Fantasy. Where the game used to decide when you could play a wildcard or free hit, that’s now your call. Use them whenever suits your team, your form or your strategy.
What's changing
Previously, every leg came with its own wildcard, and you'd get a free hit whenever a leg had only one league in play. That added up to a lot of boosters, and it meant we were largely deciding the moments you could use them.
From the season start, you'll have three boosters to use across the whole season: two free hits and one wildcard. Play them whenever you like, there's no leg-by-leg allocation and no set windows.
To help you settle in (or reset) at the start of each leg, the first Gameweek of every leg now comes with unlimited free transfers. This doesn't touch your three boosters, so newcomers get a clean run at building their squad, and season-long players get a fresh start each leg without having to spend a wildcard to get it.
Wildcard vs free hit
A quick refresher on what each booster actually does:
Wildcard: unlimited transfers within a now £100m budget. Once played, your new squad sticks for every Gameweek that follows.
Free hit: unlimited transfers within a now £100m budget, but only for that one Gameweek. Your team reverts to normal once the Gameweek is over.
Whichever you play, all boosters are capped at the standard £100m budget.
Why we've made the change
Under the previous system, most of the incentive to overhaul your team sat in the first handful of Gameweeks. After that, there wasn't much reason to make big changes.
Cutting boosters down to three for the whole season changes that. You'll need to think about form, fixtures and timing across the whole campaign, not just at the start, and decide which moments are worth spending a wildcard or free hit on.
What this means for you
Boosters are yours to play, not ours to schedule. Use them earlier, save them for a tricky run of fixtures, or hold your wildcard until you need a genuine reset, it’s your call.
And because every leg opens with unlimited free transfers, you can treat each one as a fresh start whenever you need to, without burning through your season’s supply of boosters to do it.
Everything else stays as it is: 15-player squad, £100m budget, two free transfers a week, your captain, the three-per-club limit and how points are scored.
