Are the Saints marching to the top half?

The overview

Last season: 5th (BWSL2)

This season expectations: Challenging for UWCL places

Spurs quietly put together a solid campaign last season and have followed it with a summer of eye-catching business. Martin Ho's side finished mid-table, and the recruitment suggests they're aiming to kick on, with some real quality added right across the pitch.

They've had a reshuffle in their attack as Kirsty Hanson arrives from Aston Villa having scored 12 goals last season, an outstanding return that instantly makes her one of Spurs' most exciting players. Shekiera Martinez joins from West Ham, making this a forward line with real substance.

There’s more good news as Cathinka Tandberg and Olivia Holdt are still there. The pair led the way last season with a healthy haul of goals between them. The Dane’s long-range shooting proved to be invaluable as she bagged 8 goals from an xG of 4.29.

There’s a youthful spark to Spurs. Signe Gaupset is one of the most talented young players in the BWSL; an attacking midfielder who loves to run at defenders, exactly the kind of high-involvement player worth tracking for Fantasy points. Plus, the addition of Alice Sombath from OL Lyonnes shows just how ambitious this Tottenham side is ahead of the new season.

Set-piece takers

Corners: Matilda Vinberg is most likely to be on corners. She was pretty much a nailed-on starter last season so could be a strong addition to your midfield based on the assist potential.

Penalties: With Bethany England's departure, Tandberg is a candidate having also stepped up from twelve yards, though a new arrival could equally claim them. Keep an eye on the opening weeks.

Direct free kicks: Eveliina Summanen and Matilda Vinberg look the most likely to be in free kick duties.

Player costs

The obvious place to start is Kirsty Hanson (£8.0m), the former Aston Villa player is a proven goalscorer at this level and will most likely go straight into the starting 11. Then there’s Olivia Holdt (£7.5m) who enjoyed a stellar campaign last time round and offers plenty of goals from midfield.

Victoria Pelova (£6.5m) is another quality option in midfield worth considering once you see where she settles. Additionally, Alice Sombath (£5.5m) is a talented young defender who brings some excellent ball-playing qualities to the backline.
