A swing weekend is a scary moment for fantasy players.

There will be people out there who owned Chelsea’s Katie McCabe, West Ham’s Viviane Asseyi and Everton’s Courtney Brosnan last weekend, accumulating an astonishing 38 points across three players without even breaking a sweat.

There will be people out there who owned none of the above.

Gameweek 9 is on the horizon - providing the perfect chance to make amends by getting on board with one club that appears set to keep causing chaos long after Halloween season is over.

Spurs Mids Benefitting from Unpredictable Results

Tottenham’s eight BWSL games have produced an incredible 40 goals so far, with Martin Ho’s side scoring 23 and conceding 17. That’s eight more goals than the 32 scored in Manchester City’s matches - a factor that fantasy players need to take very seriously.

Ho’s high-intensity style of play should intrigue those who are looking to make changes in their midfield. While Spurs are leaving plenty of room open to be countered, Ho’s side are pushing numbers forward to support striker Cathinka Tandberg.

Classed as midfielders in fantasy, Victoria Pelova, Signe Gaupset and Olivia Holdt all scored in the 4-1 win over Birmingham on the weekend, grabbing 15, 10 and 11 points respectively. They also all sit within the top 10 highest-scoring midfielders this year, ahead of three-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, and other huge names, such as Lauren James and Georgia Stanway.

Value for Money is Key

Spurs’ results may vary, but the unpredictability of their results should be seen as an opportunity for those who want to find differentials with excellent value. A couple of months into the season, we’re now seeing essential picks become very clear.

Bunny Shaw, Lauren Hemp and Ellie Carpenter are among the top-scoring players who a majority of players own. They are also incredibly expensive. Throw in the rightfully popular Putellas, who perhaps hasn’t produced the points many would want to coincide with her £8.5 million cost, and it soon becomes a task of needing to spend wisely elsewhere to afford the favourites.

Enter, Spurs. Sunday’s victory showcased the very best of the north London side, with Ho encouraging his players to press intensely and trust their shooting ability from distance.

Gaupset was unlucky not to break into the 20-point range with her performance. Before scoring, she had a brilliant solo effort cleared off the line, and then played a key role in Julie Blackstad’s opener.

Her goal was typical of Spurs’ offensive confidence - even when off-balance, her sharpness around the box had the net bustling with an unstoppable finish. She might just be a hidden bargain at £6 million - even more so when you consider her six percent ownership.

The choice doesn’t stop there, though. Holdt was a creative force throughout the match, hitting the target with three shots and scoring a free kick that was so calm it almost moved in slow-motion. Many fantasy players will opt for the set piece taker, who is more expensive at £7.5 million, with slightly lower ownership at five percent.

Then there’s Pelova, who is the highest-scoring of the three, with a total of 70 points; 16 more than Gaupset and 22 more than Holdt. That comes with greater attention, with her £6.5 million price currently tempting 20 percent of players into selecting her for their team.

After six goals and three assists, Pelova is less of a differential than her colleagues, but is the fifth-highest scoring player overall. That kind of output will have crept up on many, as more popular names usually get the nod earlier in a fantasy season. That should soon change, so it’s important to make the jump now if you’re going to.

Gaupset, Holdt and Pelova have 19 goal contributions between them so far - an output that is unlikely to slow with Brighton, Everton and Charlton to play in the next four matches. Sure, Man City is the other one of those matches, but with Ho’s attacking ambitions and a creaky City defence, you shouldn’t bet against the midfield trio adding to their totals there, as well.
