Angela Addison scores on debut as Burnley make their Subway Players Cup entrance

The revamped Subway Players Cup continued to deliver dynamic headlines in Matchround 3 of the 2026–27 competition. With the new Swiss-style league format guaranteeing teams a minimum of six fixtures, managers across the cup have embraced the chance to test squad depth and integrate fresh talent. An incredible 21 players made debuts in weeks 1 and 2, and week 3 continued to see debut action fresh off the back of international break. Here are the debutants who made their mark this week.

Burnley 3-2 Durham

  • Burnley Women (Club Debut)

  • Angela Addison (Durham Women)

The clash at Turf Moor marked a landmark afternoon as Burnley Women made their official franchise debut in the Subway Players Cup. Hosting Durham in a dramatic 3–2 encounter, Jackie Bachteler's side made an immediate statement of intent in front of their home crowd. Burnley established control early through Jamie Finn's opener in the 35th minute before Emma Siddall doubled the advantage shortly before half-time. Despite relinquishing their two-goal cushion in the second half, the Clarets demonstrated immense resilience to regroup and claim all three points via a 93rd-minute winner from vice-captain Alethea Paul. It was a clinical performance that announced Burnley's arrival in the competition with momentum and tactical grit.

Despite Durham leaving Lancashire empty-handed, Angela Addison provided a bright spark off the bench to underline her attacking pedigree. Addison’s long-awaited appearance came following her initial arrival at the club in the summer of 2025, after which a severe injury kept her sidelined and delayed her official senior debut for over a year. When her moment finally arrived, she replaced Ella Ede in the 70th minute and required just 11 minutes on the pitch to make a game-changing contribution. Displaying sharp instincts in the penalty box, the forward met a deep cross from captain Sarah Wilson with a clean, hook-volley finish into the net to bring Durham level at 2–2. Her energetic pressing and movement added immediate authority to the Wildcats' attack, proving that she will be a vital asset as Durham continue their cup and league campaign.
