Following the first international break of the 2026/27 Barclays Women’s Super League season, league action resumes this weekend.
Arsenal get Matchweek 6 underway on Saturday afternoon as they host Birmingham City. There are a handful of London derbies to whet the appetite as Chelsea take on Tottenham Hotspur, while Crystal Palace face West Ham United.
In total, there are three league clashes in south London on Sunday, as London City Lionesses welcome Everton to Hayes Lane. Table footers Charlton Athletic, meanwhile, host Manchester United.
New beginnings in Manchester
The trip to the capital presents United with the perfect opportunity to extend their winning run to three matches as they look to continue their upward trajectory following an indifferent summer. A month before the season got underway, Marc Skinner left his role as United head coach. It brought an abrupt end to a five-year era in Manchester.
Eva Olid took over the United reins in the wake of Skinner’s exit, leaving Hearts after a five-year spell in the Scottish capital, one that ended on a high as the Spaniard guided the Edinburgh-outfit to the Scottish Women’s Premier League title. Naturally, it was going to take time to adjust to a new manager, and one in her debut campaign south of the border.
So, United losing their first game of the campaign at London City Lionesses was hardly a surprise. They gave their all in an eventual 2-1 defeat in the capital. To follow that up with a 5-0 home thrashing at the hands of Chelsea wasn’t great. The loss, though, seemed to kick United into gear.
In the weeks following the heavy reverse to the Blues, United have picked up seven points. They followed up a 1-1 draw at Arsenal with successive home wins over West Ham and Liverpool. They’ve turned their fortunes around under Olid.
United's favourable run
And as they look to make it three wins on the spin at Charlton’s expense, it’s now worth pondering whether it’s a good time to bring United players into your Fantasy side.
Bar the looming Manchester Derby, United have a relatively favourable run of games. Indeed, after the trip to Charlton and welcome of rivals Manchester City, they travel to Everton before games against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City. They come up against the bottom three across their next six Matchweeks.
And with the chance to make unlimited transfers on Fantasy before Leg 2 gets underway this weekend, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the best performing United players so far, and ponder whether there’s a chance to make up ground of Fantasy rivals.
The United players to consider
After the opening five Matchweeks, Andrea Medina is United’s top scoring player with 28 points to her name. Available for just £5.5m and selected by just 5% of users, the Spanish left-back could prove a handy differential option. Medina scored United’s decisive second in their recent 2-1 win over West Ham, and perhaps should have an assist to her name.
That’s because no United player has created more chances than Medina (5) in the BWSL this season. Olid’s side prefers to attack down the flanks - just 22% of attacks this season have come through the middle - so Medina is well worth considering.
Hot on her heels in terms of points earned is goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, with 27 to her name. Like Media, Tullis-Joyce comes in at £5.5m on Fantasy, though has been selected by 17% of players so far.
The United shotstopper has six bonus points to her name, which has propelled her up the club’s point scorers. The American ranks fourth for saves (23) in the BWSL this season, while a total of eight in a clean sheet-attaining display against Liverpool prior to the international break is the second most in a single 2026/27 BWSL match.
Rounding off the top three points scorers is Julia Zigiotti Olme. The 28-year-old has scored two of United’s five league goals this season, which has contributed towards her 22 points. Olme is well on her way to matching her 91-point haul last season.
However, she’s been selected by just 1% of users so far this term. Coming in at £6.5m on Fantasy, the Swedish midfielder is a more expensive option for players, which might be why they are put off plumping for Olme.
At the other end of the pitch, Elizabeth Terland has 16 points to her name, in part largely due to her decisive strike in last month’s 2-1 win over West Ham. Having been directly involved in eight goals last season, scoring six times, across just 964 minutes of action, it’s not a surprise that Terland has a slightly higher selection rate (7%).
Fantasy players, though, will hope to see a much-improved return in Leg 2 if Terland is to justify her £7m price tag.
Either way, after a patchy start to life under Olid, United appear to have turned a corner. And with a favourable run of fixtures looming, now is probably as good a time as any to turn to United players to bulk out your Fantasy team.
