Formations, the must-have core and the one big miss. Here's what the best Fantasy managers did in Leg 1, and what you can copy for Leg 2.

What separates the best Fantasy managers from the rest? We looked at the 10 highest-scoring teams from Leg 1 to find out.

Tip 1: Pack your midfield

The top 10's favourite formation was 3-5-2, and every one of them used it at least once.

It makes sense. Four of Leg 1's top five scorers were midfielders.

The average Leg 1 squad followed suit, putting around 60% of its budget into midfielders and forwards and 40% into goalkeepers and defenders.

Tip 2: Build around a proven core

The top 10 shared a spine of big-name players and kept faith with them all leg.

Of Leg 1's top 20 scorers, Shaw was the only one owned by all 10 in every gameweek. Shaw and Hemp were also the players who appeared most often in each gameweek's highest-scoring team, featuring in four of the five.

Tip 3: Patience pays

The top 10 took just one points hit between them across the whole leg. Across all managers, transfer hits cost 48,052 points.

The one big miss

Even the best got one thing wrong. Leg 1's top scorer, Océane Hurtré, was owned by just one of the top 10, and never for all five gameweeks.

They weren't alone. Victoria Pelova (45 points) and Keira Walsh (38) weren't owned by any of the top 10 at any point.

What it means for Leg 2

Copy the core, then find the Hurtré the top 10 missed. That's where you can make up ground on the leaders.
