An historic win for Chelsea's Bompastor, Man City's ominous start and more in the pick of the stats from Matchweek 6, plus the latest Fantasy numbers

Bompastor makes history in milestone match

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor marked her 50th WSL game in style, overseeing a 6-2 thrashing of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

In doing so, the legendary former France midfielder moved to 125 points in the competition – more than any other manager in their first 50 BWSL matches, surpassing the previous of record of 123 held by 2018/19 title-winning Arsenal coach Joe Montemuro.

Bompastor averages a mightily impressive 2.5 points per game, winning 39 of her first 50 fixtures at the helm – including 19 victories en route to the 2024/25 title in her debut season with the Blues.

Man City preserve perfect start with auspicious win

Bunny Shaw bagged a brace as champions Manchester City maintained their 100% start to the campaign by edging a resilient Brighton & Hove Albion side 3-2 at the Joie Stadium.

It’s the first time Man City have won their opening six BWSL games since 2016 – when they went on to claim their first top-flight title.

This latest victory also extended City’s home BWSL winning run to 16 matches, stretching back to May last year.

Lionesses break record by landing latest blow

Six is also the magic number for London City Lionesses, who made history with a 2-1 home win over Everton thanks to Freya Godfrey’s first goal of the season and Delphine Cascarino’s second in as many outings.

As such, the rampant Lionesses have recorded six straight victories in all competitions for the first time in their history.

Underlining their title credentials, the Lionesses are flying under Eder Maestre, racking up just over 60% of their BWSL goals total from last term less than a quarter of the way into the current campaign.

Hurtre handling the step up in style

Oceane Hurtre’s dream start to her first BWSL campaign continued as she opened the scoring for Birmingham City in their 1-1 draw away to Arsenal, deftly chipping goalkeeper Misa.

Having found the net in France’s 9-0 drubbing of Latvia during the international break, Hurtre picked up where she left off with her sixth league goal of the season.

The winger has now accounted for all but two of Birmingham’s eight goals (75%) since they returned to the BWSL for 2026/27.

Okuma on the money for four-year first

Aston Villa were grateful to goalkeeper Akane Okuma in more than one way as they ended their nine-month wait for a home BWSL win by coming from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1.

And aside from making eight saves to keep the visitors at bay, Okuma sparked Villa’s comeback by setting up Chasity Grant’s equaliser with a brilliantly spotted ball over the top.

In doing so, the Japan international – who has impressed between the sticks – since joining Villa from INAC Kobe Leonessa in the summer – became the first ‘keeper to register a BWSL assist since Zecira Musovic for Chelsea in March 2022 – incidentally, against Villa.

Fantasy in numbers: Leg 2 | Matchweek 6

Standout individual

Ellie Carpenter now leads the way with 63 Fantasy points at an average of 10.5 per Matchweek. The Chelsea defender bagged a brace against Spurs to pick up 15 points this time out.

Carpenter is one of three players to reach the 60-point mark this season, along with Man City’s Lauren Hemp (61) and the aforementioned Hurtre of Birmingham (60).

Top of the league

Having won Leg 1, Samo Bobnar’s OnaBattleAfterAnothr continue to set the pace in Fantasy, topping the Barclays Season Race table with 593 points – collecting 91 in Matchweek 6.

The team’s big difference-makers this weekend included Carpenter, Hemp – the latter earning 18 points as captain – and Carpenter’s Chelsea teammate Lauren James (16 points).

However, Bobnar does not lead the way after the first round of Leg 2. That honour belong to Jack Benham with their team Charlie xGx, who racked up a whopping 118 points in Matchweek 6 – 28 of them through captain Bunny Shaw.
