The numbers that told the story of the weekend

Matchweek 20 of the 2025/26 Barclays Women’s Super League is in the books – and it was eventful one, with 17 goals going in across five games.

Here, we dive into those goalscoring exploits and more in our numerical recap of the weekend’s action…

For the first time in almost 15 months, Manchester City conceded three goals in a BWSL game, as their title celebrations were put on hold by a surprise 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Madison Haley’s brace and a goal from Kiko Seike secured an impressive victory for the Seagulls, who had lost 10 and won only one of their previous 14 encounters with Man City.

More positively for the leaders, though, Khadija Shaw notched her 19th league goal of the season to go one away from becoming just the second player to score 20 or more goals in two BWSL campaigns (after Sam Kerr).

Still in contention for a top-half finish in their debut BWSL campaign, London City Lionesses racked up five goals in the competition for the first time as they thrashed Leicester City 5-1 – confirming the visitors’ relegation.

Having briefly trailed to Shannon O’Brien’s goal, the Lionesses well and truly dominated proceedings at the Copperjax Community Stadium, finding the net with 50% of their shots on target.

And head coach Eder Maestre will no doubt have been delighted to see his team triumph with five different goalscorers: Lucia Corrales, Isobel Goodwin, Malou Rylov, Grace Geyoro and Freya Godfrey.

7

Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce stole the show in her side’s 0-0 draw away to Tottenham Hotspur, moving to seven clean sheets for the campaign.

The USA international’s latest shutout takes her level with Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton at the front of the race for the BWSL Golden Glove – after the pair shared the 2024/25 award with 13 clean sheets apiece.

Tullis-Joyce pulled off five saves as Man United snapped a run of three straight defeats in all competitions and kept themselves in with a chance of Champions League qualification.

63

Sam Kerr reached her latest BWSL milestone by becoming Chelsea’s joint leading scorer in the competition, bagging her 63rd goal in the Blues’ 4-1 win over Everton.

The former BWSL Player of the Season drew level with former Chelsea teammate Fran Kirby when she bagged the second goal of a brace at Goodison Park.

It continued a fine run of form for Kerr, who has four goals and two assists to her name in her last four appearances in all competitions.

1,800

After Matchweek 20, three BWSL players still boast ever-present status, having played all 1,800 minutes of the campaign.

Two of those three are goalkeepers – London City Lionesses’ Elene Lete and Tottenham’s Lize Kop – with Man United centre-back Maya Le Tissier the only outfield player not to have missed a minute in the top flight this term.

In a remarkable show of reliability, Le Tissier has played every minute of every BWSL game in each of the last three seasons – and has started every BWSL game in each of the last six campaigns, going back to her time at Brighton.
