West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of versatile forward Ebony Salmon, following her departure from fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old has penned a two-year contract at the Club to become Rita Guarino’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
Salmon arrives in east London with WSL experience in abundance, having made 92 top-flight appearances for Bristol City and the Villans, while she also spent two seasons in the United States with National Women’s Soccer League sides Racing Louisville and Houston Dash.
A proven goalscorer, Salmon, who will wear the No17 shirt, is looking forward getting started in Claret & Blue and is excited to bring her experience to the east Londoners.
“I’m really excited to join West Ham United and begin this next chapter of my career,” she said.
“After the conversations I had with Rita [Guarino] and others at the Club, it just seemed like the right fit for me.
“I’m really looking forward to getting started, meeting all of my teammates and the fans, and helping West Ham push on this season.”
Wolverhampton-born Salmon’s career started at Aston Villa’s Academy, where she broke into their first team in October 2017 and went on to score an impressive seven goals in 12 Barclays Women’s Super League 2 appearances in the 2017/18 campaign.
Having joined Manchester United in the summer that followed, her goalscoring form continued as she notched seven times in nine appearances while on loan at Sheffield United from January 2019 before signing for then top-flight side Bristol City.
Salmon shone at the Robins, scoring 18 goals in 45 appearances, and won their Player and Young Player of the Season awards for her contributions throughout the 2020/21 campaign - the season in which she earned her senior England debut.
The attacker then spent two years in the United States with Racing Louisville and Houston Dash before returning to the Villans in the summer of 2023, where she enjoyed three seasons of regular WSL football, scoring 14 goals in 75 appearances.
Head Coach Guarino is pleased to bolster her attacking options with Salmon’s arrival, as she said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Ebony to the Club.
“Ebony is a forward that can play right across the front line, and that versatility, along with the pace and power that she brings will be important for us.
“She is a very direct player that likes to take on opponents one-vs-one, which I’m sure will excite our supporters.
"Ebony will complement our existing attacking and adds a lot of WSL experience at the top end of the pitch, and I'm really pleased that we've been able to bring her to West Ham United."
