The winners of the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 awards for the opening month of the campaign have now been confirmed.

Firstly, Sunderland’s Emily Scarr has been named as Player of the Month after emerging victorious in the combined public and panel vote.

Scarr sits joint-top of the league’s goalscoring charts at present, boasting three goals and two assists so far.

The striker saw off the challenge of Birmingham City’s Lily Crosthwaite, Charlton Athletic’s Sophie Whitehouse and Durham’s Beth Hepple to take the division’s first player award of the season.

Portsmouth’s Angelina Nixon meanwhile emerged victorious in the Goal of the Month voting polls courtesy of her effort from distance against Ipswich Town.

It was an impressive month for goals in Barclays WSL2, with strikes from Katy Watson (Sunderland v Southampton), Atlanta Primus (Southampton v Ipswich Town), Meg Hornby (Portsmouth v Sheffield United), Megan Collett (Southampton v Crystal Palace) and Abbie Larkin (Crystal Palace v Southampton) all in the running.

Elsewhere, the League Managers’ Association have announced that Birmingham City’s Amy Merricks had been voted Barclays WSL2 Manager of the Month.

The Blues won three and drew one of their four league fixtures throughout September, scoring 12 goals and conceding just five, enjoying emphatic victories over Bristol City (5-1) and Newcastle United (4-2) along the way, and currently sit second in the table.
