Can Ipswich pick up where they left off?

The overview

Last season: 9th (BWSL2)

This season expectations: Mid-lower table

If any squad has had a makeover this summer, it's most definitely Ipswich. David Wright has reshaped his side, bringing in a whole raft of experienced faces, many of them from the Scottish and Irish leagues, to give the team a completely new look ahead of the new season. When a side goes through an overhaul like this, it’s a fascinating watch; it usually takes a few weeks for the new players to settle, but the bargains are there for those who spot the right names early.

The standout arrival is Kit Graham, who comes in from Tottenham. The 30-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich and brings a real touch of class to the middle of the park. Based on our scoring system, the versatile midfielder would have averaged a very solid 5.9 points per 90 last season.

Around her, Megan Hornby arrives from Portsmouth with a knack for goals, after netting 8 from an xG of 4.77 in 2025/26. Plus, there's plenty of fresh energy from the likes of Jenna Slattery and Rosie Livingstone, so Ipswich are clearly looking to build on a solid first campaign in BWSL 2.

Ava Baker is another exciting dribbler worth keeping tabs on. She averaged 6.48 dribbles per 90 last season, so she could easily pick up plenty of involvement points. In David Wright, Ipswich have an exciting manager, and this is a side that could really surprise a few people once the season gets going.

Set-piece takers

Corners: Baker and Lucy Ashworth-Clifford took most of the corners last season, and with Kit Graham also comfortable over a dead ball, Ipswich have three good options here.

Penalties: One to keep an eye on. Paige Peake stepped up from the spot last season, but with Megan Hornby arriving, having taken them at Portsmouth, there's a question over who might be the assigned penalty taker.

Direct free kicks: Peake or Graham are the one who found themselves in charge of direct free kicks last season.

Player costs

In Fantasy terms, Ipswich are all about finding value in a fresh-look squad before the rest of the game catches on.

Kit Graham (£5.5m) could be one to target; her creativity and goal threat could make her a bargain in your midfield. Lucy Ashworth-Clifford (£5.5m) offers crosses and the odd goal, while Ava Baker (£5.0m) would have averaged 7.8 points per 90 last season, so given her dynamic style of play, she could be the pick of the bunch.

New addition Aimee Palmer was something of an orchestrator for Southampton last season, averaging a 76.7% pass accuracy, and at £5.0m she has the potential to be a strong addition in the middle of the park if she hits the ground running. At the back, Paige Peake (£5.0m) is a solid option, especially if she is going to be contributing from set pieces.
