Manchester City announce the signing of Beth Mead.
The 31-year-old has signed a three-year deal that will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2029.
An experienced and versatile forward who can operate across the attacking positions, Mead recently departed Arsenal after nine years, winning six titles and scoring 86 goals in 263 games. She also currently holds the record for the most assists in WSL history (54).
Mead began her career with Sunderland - becoming the Women’s Super League’s youngest Golden Boot winner at just 20, with her current haul of 72 goals bettered only by City forwards Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Vivianne Miedema, as well as Nikita Parris and Beth England.
Mead, who currently has 81 senior caps and 40 goals for England, has excelled on the international stage, helping her country to European Championship success in both 2022 and 2025.
Her performances at Euro 2022 saw her finish as the tournament’s top scorer and leading assist provider, earning her a second-place finish in the Ballon d’Or that year, as well as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
Speaking about the move to City, Mead said: “I’m very proud to be here. Obviously, City had an amazing season last year and I am excited to start a new chapter here.
“I think the way City plays suits me really well, and I feel like it can get something extra out of my game.
“Speaking to the manager, I think it was a place where I think I can really fit into, help and bring a different dynamic to the team, so it was a no-brainer for me.”
Director of Football Therese Sjögran added: “Beth’s achievements in the game speak for themselves, so we’re delighted to bring her to the Club.
“Winning the Double last season was a special chapter in our history, but it’s one we want to build on in the coming seasons. Signing a player of Beth’s quality and calibre can only help that happen.
“She’s shown what it takes to consistently perform on the kind of big stages we want to regularly be competing at, so she’ll be a brilliant addition to our already impressive squad of players.”
