New look Hammers, new ambitions?

The overview

Last season: Promoted from WNL

This season expectations: Avoid relegation

Wolves are the final team in our WSL Fantasy guide. They are stepping up into BWSL 2 after earning promotion from the Women's National League. Rather than simply rely on the group that won promotion, Dan McNamara has gone out and recruited a spine of experienced players, and it's those additions that shape how you should read Wolves for Fantasy.

Melissa Lawley is the name to know; she’s vastly experienced and can bring some pace and know-how out wide. The former Everton player would have scored 6.4 points per 90 last season. The signing of Jasmine Matthews brings plenty of defensive steel to the back line while Yana Daniëls comes in with plenty of BWSL experience and knows how to provide a focal point to the attack.

Wolves have kept a good chunk of their promotion-winning squad and folded in these experienced heads, but exactly how the blend works, and who steps up in attack, is something the first few weeks will reveal. Daniëls looks like she will be the star of the show for Wolves but keep an eye out for some gems making a name for themselves in the second tier in the opening fixtures.

Set-piece takers

Corners: With Beth Merrick having retired there is a gap to fill here. The first few games will tell us more about who is on set pieces for Wolves.

Penalties: Potentially Daniëls if she is the starting striker but it’s best to wait and see.

Direct free kicks: Another gap to fill here given Merrick’s retirement.

Player costs

Yana Daniëls (£4.5m) has the potential to be a real Fantasy gem, she has BWSL 2 experience and can offer a goal threat up front. She's not the only option worth a look, though. Melissa Lawley (£4.5m) can bring pace and end product from the wing and can play through the middle too.

Hollie Olding (£5.0m) could bring some creativity to the midfield arriving from Nottingham Forest. There’s also goalkeeper Emily Orman (£4.5m), on loan from London City Lionesses, an exciting young talent who could be a good option if she features regularly.

This is a new-look side, so giving it a few weeks to settle will tell you plenty about who's starting and scoring before you spend. A Wolves midfielder or attacker could be a great option, it’s just a case of waiting to see how this team adjusts to a higher level.
