London City Lionesses can confirm that Kosovare Asllani has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2027.
Asllani joined London City in June 2024 and was named club captain. She netted15 goal involvements across her first season in London City colours and topped the Barclays Women’s Super League Two assist charts as the club historically earned promotion to the Women’s Super League.
She led the club in their maiden top-flight campaign, scoring the club’s first-ever goal in the league against Arsenal and featured 21 times in the 2025/26 season.
In March 2026, Asllani suffered a complex multi-ligament injury, including anterior cruciate ligament, in London City’s Barclays Women’s Super League match against West Ham United and is currently undertaking her rehabilitation.
Earlier in her career, Asllani has won the Damallsvenskan twice and the Barclays Women’s Super League, whilst playing for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Paris Saint- Germain, Manchester City, Real Madridand AC Milan.
A true icon of the women’s game, having played over 200 times for Sweden, the 36-year- old has captained her country in numerous major tournaments and has two World Cup bronze medals and two Olympic silver medals to her name.
Everyone at London City will continue to support Kosovare closely as she continues her rehabilitation journey.
Asllani said: “History is constantly being written at this club. To have been part of it from the very start, to have believed when some did not, and to see what we’ve achieved in just two years is the most inspiring part of this journey.
“Helping pave the path, earning promotion to the WSL in our first season and seeing the club continue to grow makes me incredibly proud.
“What excites me even more is the future. I want young girls to dream of playing for London City Lionesses. I want this badge to represent ambition, opportunity, and the belief thatanything is possible. This is where the future of the women’s game is being shaped. Where history is being written, barriers are broken, and dreams and ambitions have no limits.
“Unfortunately, I’ll be sidelined for part of the season due to the injury I suffered at the end of last season. It’s not the way I wanted to start the season, but my focus is on recovering and coming back stronger.
“Until then, I’ll be supporting the team from the sidelines every step of the way.”
