Defender moves north for new challenge

Burnley Women have added left-back Kiera Sena to their squad after she left fellow Barclays Women’s Super League 2 side Southampton last month.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has agreed a two-year contract with the Clarets.

When asked to describe her emotions after putting pen to paper, she said: “It feels very good.

“I’m excited to be here and I’m looking forward to getting going.

“It (Southampton) was a massive experience, being my first professional contract. It didn’t go the way I planned, so I’m excited for a fresh start.

“The ambitions of Burnley, and the fact that they want to progress into the WSL, show that they are so invested into the Women’s side of things.”

Born and raised in Fermoy, Sena made her senior debut for her hometown club Cork City as a 15-year-old in 2023.

By the time she left Ireland in the summer of 2025 she had already amassed almost 50 appearances and gained valuable experience on the international stage.

Sena has represented her country at U17 & U19 level, starting all three group games at the U19 European Championships last year.

When joining Southampton in July 2025 she penned her first professional contract, but injury limited her to just two BWSL2 appearances for the Saints.

Both of those came against Ipswich Town and the 19-year-old made an immediate impact off the bench at Portman Road in March, providing the assist for a 96th-minute winner.

Having returned to fitness, Sena is relishing the chance to meet and impress a new group of staff and supporters in Lancashire.
