Scottish defender arrives from Brighton and Hove Albion

Newcastle United Women are delighted to announce the signing of defender Rachel McLauchlan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Scotland international joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee after two years with the Seagulls.

Rachel made 51 appearances during her time on the south coast and featured for the side in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at the end of last season.

Previously, the defender spent time with Rangers, Glasgow City and Hibernian helping them all to achieve a host of honours including five Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, and four Scottish Cups.

Internationally, she has 35 caps for Scotland and was selected to represent them at the Euros in 2017.

Rachel said: “I’m really excited to get started. I’m raring to go, it’s a big opportunity and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone.

“I want to come here and help the team get promoted. Tanya spoke so highly of what the club wants to do and that was a big motivation for me to come here.”

Manager, Tanya Oxtoby, added: “Rachel is an experienced player at both club and international level, and understands what it takes to compete for and win league titles.

“She is a brilliant defender that adds versatility to the full back position, while also possessing the ability to provide effective support to the attack.”
