The overview
Last season: 4th (BWSL)
This season expectations: Challening for UWCL places
Manchester United go into the new season under fresh leadership with Eva Olid taking the reigns as they chase a Champions League return. Despite finishing outside the UWCL spots last season, United had the third best defence in the league meaning they have some really solid Fantasy options as you look to build your back line.
Captain Maya Le Tissier was one of the standout performers. She averaged 4.3 interceptions per 90 last season and would have scored 113 points over the season. Furthermore, Phallon Tullis-Joyce conceded 19 goals from an xGC of 24.58 showing how reliable she is in goal.
United have had a quieter summer than some of their rivals, which is no bad thing when you consider that they have a solid core within their squad. Ella Toone remains the creative heartbeat in midfield, if she stays fit you can expect her to chip in with goals and assists, while Elisabeth Terland will most likely lead the line as she looks to better last season’s goal tally of six. The brightest spark for Manchester United though, is Jess Park. With six goals and five assists to her name, she enjoyed a standout debut season and will want to kick on in the upcoming campaign.
Set-piece takers
Corners: Anna Sandberg is most likely to and take corners while Ella Toone and Fridolina Rolfö both step in if she is absent.
Penalties: Maya Le Tissier assumed responsibilities as captain and a reliable presence. She will most likely continue.
Direct free kicks: Anna Sandberg and Dominique Janssen appeared to share responsibilities last season, and both remain at the club so expect them to continue into the new season.
Player costs
The standout pick is Phallon Tullis-Joyce (£5.5m). The American has proven herself to be one of the finest goalkeepers in the league behind a solid defence making her a brilliant clean-sheet source, and keepers are so often where the smart budget goes. For goals, Elisabeth Terland (£7.0m) is the one to eye as United's main striker, while Ella Toone (£7.0m) offers that dependable midfield return of goals and assists, it’s worth remembering a midfielder's goal is worth that bit more.
Defensively, both centre back’s Maya Le Tissier (£6.0m) and Dominique Janssen (£5.5) are an interesting shout. In Le Tissier you have a defender who also takes the penalties which gives you two routes to points from one pick, both can be relied upon for clean sheets and defensive involvement.
