Is the £9m price tag worth it?

Club: Manchester City
Position: Forward
Price: £9.0m
Last season points: 134

As we announced Fantasy on the WSL Football App, it’s only right that we highlight some players who could spark immediate success for your team.

There are no Barclays Women’s Super League players with a stronger goalscoring pedigree than Vivianne Miedema.

The Manchester City versatile forward enters the game as the third-most expensive player at £9million, beaten by teammate Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Alessia Russo.

It’s a significant investment for the Dutch international, but one that looks considerably more appealing when considering what the 30-year-old has achieved in the BWSL both last season and beyond.

Miedema finished the 2025/26 campaign with 134 Fantasy points, the ninth-highest overall and third among her fellow forwards.

A BWSL Great

Miedema arrived in England in 2017, joining Arsenal from Bayern Munich as one of the world’s most exciting young attackers,

She quickly established herself as one of the league’s most prolific goalscorers, bagging 22 goals in her maiden campaign, as she helped Arsenal to league victory. Across her seven seasons with Arsenal, Miedema scored 80 WSL goals in 106 appearances while also providing 35 assists.

Her attacking prowess has cemented her spot in the BWSL record books. She was the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the league, doing so in just 50 appearances. The Dutchwoman also became the first player to reach 100 WSL goal involvements.

A new chapter in Manchester

After seven years in north London, Miedema transferred to Manchester City in 2024.

Her first season was interrupted with injuries following complications after her ACL injury in 2023, but she still managed 11 goals and four assists across 19 appearances.

Last season, however, provided a much more accurate indication of what Miedema can provide when fully fit. She scored 10 BWSL goals and provided five assists as Manchester City roared to league glory - their first league title since 2016.

Why you should pick her

Under Andrée Jeglertz’s leadership, Miedema has operated more as a No.10 rather than an out-and-out forward, allowing her to be increasingly involved in City’s build-up and chance creation.

Of course for Fantasy players, that means multiple avenues to fantasy points.

A further boost for Fantasy players is City’s recruitment of former Arsenal forward Beth Mead. The pair spent years together in the capital where they formed a stellar on-pitch understanding.

In fact, Mead has assisted Miedema for 12 BWSL goals, making them the most prolific partnership in the league’s history.

At £9million, the 30-year-old is a pretty hefty investment but there’s plenty of evidence to suggest she can justify that high fee.

For Fantasy players, the appeal is that Miedema offers something slightly different from your traditional attackers. She has the goalscoring prowess, but her creative, free-roaming role means she doesn’t have to score each gameweek to provide value.

With City entering the campaign high on confidence as reigning champions, there should be plenty of opportunities for attacking returns.
